The Capital Area North Doctorate in Educational Leadership, or CANDEL, is a joint doctoral program between the University of California at Davis and Sonoma State University.  Our Ed.D. program is designed to produce exemplary leaders in schools, community colleges and related areas within education.

Formulated in 2005, CANDEL is fully accredited by WASC and is preparing to graduate its first class of educational leaders from public schools, community colleges, state and local educational agencies, and organizations serving education in California in June 2008.  Program participants include principals, district office and county office of education staff, teachers, consultants, community college presidents and vice-chancellors and other current or aspiring leaders. 

Our common purpose and theme is to produce exemplary leaders who are willing to question how we do business in education and seek to make the kinds of change that truly impact our students.
